Ohio Catholic Celebrates our 70th Anniversary with Bank In School Month

January 24, 2024

Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union is proud to announce we are celebrating our 70th anniversary. We thank you, our members, for recognizing the value we bring to our communities by growing from 13 founding members in 1954 to the over 12,500 members we have today. Our name has changed from the original St. Monica Garfield Heights Federal Credit Union, with some variations along the way. Our membership has expanded from parish members to include anyone in Ohio with a Catholic diocesan affiliation. Our headquarters, located in Garfield Heights, remains the hub of activity since it was built in 1988. It was here we caught up with Judith, one of our original account holders from 1954.

We asked Judith how the credit union impacted her life. She stated that she learned all about saving and handling money from the credit union. Judith attended St. Monica School (now St. Benedict) and fondly remembers representatives coming to the school cafeteria during lunch. She would save her coins and place them in the booklet provided to make her deposits. Her savings added up along with her knowledge of how to handle money well.

Over the years, Judith appreciated the service and purpose of the credit union. She remains adamant in her support of the mission of Ohio Catholic: We IMPACT the Catholic community by focusing on faith, financial solutions, and education.

During the month of February, we highlight our Bank In School program. Partner schools have at least 10 Genesis Account holders and invite a representative of Ohio Catholic (usually the local Branch Manager) to be available to students during school hours to receive deposits. At the end of the school year, one account holder is randomly drawn to receive a $1,000 scholarship to the partner school for the following year.

Does a child you know attend a partner school? Why not look into setting up a Genesis account with them? If your school is not on the list, you can ask your school if they would like to participate. Parents and grandparents always want a secure financial future for their children and grandchildren. Ohio Catholic can support your efforts with financial education and rewarding saving.

Current partner schools include:

St. Hilary

Immaculate Heart of Mary

St. Sebastian

St. Mary Chardon

St. Benedict

St. Albert the Great

Sts. Joseph and John

St. Barnabas

St. Anselm
